From 1 October 2026, Ara Recovery for All will be delivering Higher Needs Floating Support across Bristol, helping more people to keep their home and live independently.
Higher Needs Floating Support is for people who need extra help to sustain their accommodation and avoid homelessness. Our aims for the service are straightforward:
Our support model is individualised, strengths-based and trauma-informed. It’s proactive and flexible, built around the person rather than the paperwork, and focused on helping people maintain their tenancies and live independently.
This isn’t a new approach for us. It builds on the methods we’ve developed through Ara Housing First and Homelessness Pathway 4, and through our dedicated eviction-prevention work in Specialist Housing Support. The flexible, active engagement approach we created for Housing First will shape how we deliver Higher Needs Floating Support too.
We’d like to thank Second Step for their work delivering this service, and we look forward to welcoming their team and the people they support to Ara.
If you already receive this support, we want to reassure you that nothing is ending. The service is moving to Ara, and your support continues. Your home stays the same. Wherever possible you’ll keep the same support worker, and your support plans and personal history transfer to us securely and confidentially. We’ll keep you informed every step of the way.
We’re thrilled to be supporting this group of people in Bristol, and to be helping to prevent and end homelessness across the South West. We believe everyone in Bristol, and everyone across the region, deserves the support to keep a place they can call home. From October, we’ll be working hard to make that a reality for more people.
