Become a Trustee of Ara Recovery for All
Voluntary role · Around 8 days a year · Bristol (hybrid) · Unpaid, reasonable expenses reimbursed
Ara Recovery for All is recruiting new Trustees to join our Board and help shape the future of the charity.
About Ara
Ara provides free, confidential support to people and families affected by homelessness, substance use, gambling harms and resettlement after prison. Over the last six years we have supported more than 125,000 people, including 43,481 in 2025–26, and we are the lead provider for Bristol Homelessness Pathway 4. Our purpose is simple: to provide Hope and Better Lives.
The role
Trustees share collective responsibility for Ara’s direction, financial health, legal compliance and the delivery of our charitable aims. You will bring your skills, experience and judgement to Board discussions, offer constructive challenge and support, and help us govern well. You do not need to have been a Trustee before, and a full induction and ongoing support are provided.
Who we’re looking for
We want a diverse, inclusive and effective Board. We are especially keen to hear from people with experience in:
• Human Resources
• Housing & Homelessness
• Marketing, Digital & Communications
• Finance & Legal
Above all, we are looking for people with a genuine passion for our cause. We warmly welcome applications from people with lived experience of drug and alcohol use, homelessness, gambling harms and the criminal justice system.
Time commitment
Around 8 days a year. Board meetings are half-days, held quarterly at our Bristol office (hybrid attendance is possible), with short development sessions in between, plus some preparation and induction time. The role is voluntary and unpaid; reasonable expenses are reimbursed.
How to apply
Please submit a CV and a short supporting statement explaining your interest in Ara and how your skills and experience meet the role. Download the full Candidate Pack for the person specification and further detail.
